Arthrosamid or ChondroFiller: what is the difference?

A hydrogel for osteoarthritis symptoms and a collagen scaffold for cartilage defects: understand the purpose, material and procedure behind each name.

The difference at a glance

Arthrosamid

Material
Non-absorbable polyacrylamide hydrogel
Treatment aim
Manage symptoms of knee osteoarthritis
Manufacturer-described delivery
Injection into the knee joint
Key consultation question
Is this likely to help my knee symptoms?

ChondroFiller

Material
Cell-free type I collagen matrix
Treatment aim
Provide a scaffold in a prepared cartilage defect
Manufacturer-described delivery
Arthroscopic or minimally open implantation into the defect
Key consultation question
Does my defect suit this procedure, and which technique is proposed?

Start with the clinical problem

These names are often compared as though they were interchangeable injections. They are different materials, used with different treatment aims. The useful starting point is whether the discussion concerns osteoarthritis symptoms, a cartilage lesion or a more complex joint problem.

Arthrosamid: a hydrogel approach

Arthrosamid is a non-absorbable polyacrylamide hydrogel used for knee osteoarthritis symptoms. Its role should not be described as growing replacement cartilage. A change in pain is valuable, but does not on its own demonstrate structural repair.

ChondroFiller: a collagen scaffold approach

ChondroFiller is a cell-free type I collagen matrix designed to fill a cartilage defect. The manufacturer describes preparation of the defect followed by arthroscopic or minimally open implantation; the liquid sets into a scaffold at the target site.

That manufacturer-described procedure is distinct from a general joint injection. If a different delivery technique is proposed, ask what evidence applies to that exact technique and your type of cartilage damage.

Compare plans, not just products

Compare the expected benefit, uncertainty, aftercare, total cost and alternatives in your own case. AMSK’s published Arthrosamid packages describe its current care offer; discussion of ChondroFiller here is educational and does not create a new AMSK treatment package.
