A live view during the procedure
AMSK uses ultrasound guidance for Arthrosamid injections. The clinician can use the image to guide needle placement into the intended joint space. Professor Lee’s co-authored 2025 cohort records ultrasound guidance as part of its treatment protocol.
Why the technique features in the research
The 2022 systematic review co-authored by Professor Lee discusses ultrasound-guided delivery and the importance of placing the injection within the joint cavity. Current manufacturer instructions also recommend ultrasound, while describing a landmark-based alternative when it is unavailable.
That supports explaining why AMSK uses guidance. It does not mean that every unguided injection causes harm, or that a guided injection cannot have complications.
MRI can help tell the follow-up story
In the 2022 patellofemoral case report, Maulana, Cole and Lee compared MRI findings before treatment and at four months. They reported reduced bone marrow lesions alongside improved symptoms in one patient.
This is a published example of imaging in follow-up, not an example of harm from an unguided injection. Matt’s proposed MRI teaching case is separate and remains a holding space until the image and clinical interpretation are available.
What to bring if you have had treatment elsewhere
Bring the injection record, dates, scans and reports. A clinician needs the symptom history and the full imaging context to interpret a difficult recovery. One MRI slice alone cannot establish why a problem occurred.
Before a new injection, ask who will perform it, how placement will be guided and whom to contact afterwards. Those details make the care pathway easier to understand.
